Thomas, Joseph, and Lennie Sunter set up in transport in 1923 with a converted Ford Model T which carried cattle and produce from their village of Gunnerside in North Yorkshire to the market town of Richmond.  An expertise in timber haulage later prompted the transition into long steel transport and eventually heavy haulage.  They moved their depot to Northallerton in 1939 and made the headlines in 1957 when they carried the 12 Bradwell boilers, each of which weighed 238 tons.  They subsequently lost their identity in 1986 after merging with Econofreight and Wynn's to form Econofreight United Heavy Transport LTD.
